The forensic journey of the Ramsey case is a story of evolving technology and persistent ambiguity. Over the decades, investigators have returned to the evidence time and again as DNA sequencing has become more sophisticated. In 2008, new “touch DNA” technology led to the formal clearing of the Ramsey family members by the then-District Attorney Mary Lacy, who pointed to the presence of unidentified male DNA on JonBenét’s clothing.6 However, this development did not provide the “smoking gun” many hoped for. Instead, it added another layer of complexity, as subsequent experts questioned the significance of trace DNA in a house that had seen so much foot traffic.
