Traffic completely blocked and detours in place
Interstate 75 was temporarily closed in both directions, causing a traffic jam stretching over 16 kilometers (10 miles). Alternate routes were set up via US-27 and the Turnpike, but traffic remained extremely slow for several hours.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) issued an alert on its digital platforms, recommending that drivers avoid the area and use traffic apps to find alternative routes. Traffic was not fully restored until after 8:00 p.m.
Ongoing Investigation
The FHP confirmed that it has launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident. Excessive speed, distracted driving, or even mechanical failure have not been ruled out as contributing factors to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, authorities reminded drivers of the importance of maintaining a safe following distance, respecting speed limits, and being attentive to road conditions, especially in high-traffic areas like I-75.
A Scare That Could Have Been Worse
Despite the severity of the accident and the shocking image of the burning vehicle, emergency crews emphasized that, thanks to their rapid response, there were no fatalities. However, those seriously injured remain under medical observation.
The scene, marked by smoke, sirens, and the sound of helicopters, left a sense of fear and tension among drivers, a stark reminder of how fragile life can be in a matter of seconds.
